i'm not sure what will happen with this blog.

if it's about life in russia, i'm failing. i don't see much of russia these days. and, really, who wants to hear more about the car sagas and paperwork sagas and dealing with the consulate? it's all old news.

will we be in russia next year? it's possible. will be be overseas? it's probable.

i don't really think i'm mommy-blogger material. a friend said about f@cebook, "what ever happened to privacy?" it made me think about this whole blogging thing. because, it's not just my story anymore. it's hers. and i don't know what parts of it she wants shared.

i do treasure the blogger-friends i've made, though. many of them are now irl friends who just started in bloggerdom.

and, actually, i get quite nice e-mails from people that touch my heart and make me want to keep being an encouragement.

so...we'll see. right now we're recovering from the start of school. i'll be back--either blogging myself or just commenting away. (that sort of feels like cheating, though. and, goodness knows my comments are often as long as your posts as it is! without a blog i might be one of THOSE commenters--not a fate i relish.

I'll miss your blog too. I've really enjoyed reading about your adventures in Russia, adventures with the Russian adoption system, and now about your adventures with Miss Lexi herself. She really has such a big personality, it's so much fun to read about how she's adjusting to the wonderful new life she has. But I definitely respect your right to and need for privacy. So, if you do decide not to continue, thanks for sharing what you already have, and best of luck for the future!

I am one of those silent lurkers who will definitely miss your blog if you stop! I am not great at keeping up my own blog, but I'm trying not to let it go completely. I enjoy reading blogs so much more than facebook...

I totally get this. And, blogging privately is a huge bonus in many ways. I kind of imagine it documentation for later in my life when my head is not so foggy :) That's pending, right?

Been thinking about you both with the start of school.

This was the choice I faced a while back. And I no longer blog.

I Facebook, though. It's a little more selective and you can control who sees what. If you ever turn to Facebook...hope you'd like to keep in touch. :)

I think you are one of the very first people I got to know way back when I (we) began this journey. I'd hate to lose touch.

I wish you both all the best.

Oh BLSKDJFLA.
Write about whatever you want. It's just about all interesting and you write well whatever the topic. I think you should keep going and judge your families' privacy needs on a post by post basis.

I've enjoyed both your adoption journey and reading about your adventures living in St. Pete. If you move somewhere new overseas, that would also be great to read about. And following Lexi's adventures would be nice, but I understand your privacy concerns.

Our adoption of Anneliese and Alexa happened almost three years ago, and our blog posts have dropped off quickly since then. We still post mostly pictures and news of big events or milestones. Anything particularly personal we keep to ourselves. I'm not very good about capturing and sharing the little things in the girls lives, and while interesting to me, I don't think most people have the time or interest in reading about them.

One of the plus sides to blogging, is when your children are old enough, they can go back and enjoy all that you have written, and get a well documented part of their story.

Best wishes!

I totally get what you mean. Once it is no longer just about our story, but our child's too, it is a whole different ball game. Once upon a time I toyed with not keeping my blog private, but I am glad I did. Once it is 'out there' on the internet, it is there for good. I like having the control over who reads about H (and now S too) and who sees their pictures. The support and the friendships made are terrific (hi, friend ;)) and you can still have that with a private blog.

And you paperwork sagas make me glad to 'only' live in SK!

I get it, but I hope you change your mind and still find something to blog about

I too would be sad if you quit blogging all together. It's a nice way to stay in touch with the friends we've all made along the way during this whole international adoption process. (Of course, this coming from one whose own blog is on life-support right now.)

Oh man. I would miss you and your Russian adventures! Of course I would love to hear where you are going after Russia, but understand about the privacy!

who CARES what it's about? it's written by you, which is all that matters. and i will join the chorus of folks saying that we just wanna keep hearing from you...

and you know, it's kinda weird, but I'm all over FB - really all the time - but my life is still quite private. you can have both.

just sayin'.

At first I wanted to protest....then I remember - you have a TON of friends out there.

I feel very glad that the people I actually know IRL don't read my blog, but even then....I have SO much to say about my work, and my kids' school, but I really can't say anything! I can't risk people who might know the situation reading about it.

The "mommy blog" stuff is nice, so long as it is "real" and it IS hard to be real with people who might get to know your child personally. I actually think my children's STORIES are mine to tell, within reason. But in the old days, we could so easily tell variously edited versions to this person or that. Blogging doesn't allow that delicacy.

The Russia stuff is never old or boring to me. It allows me to live vicariously.

Kate - You have such a gift for writing and I do love to read your blog, however, understand your concerns. As both of my girls are from Russia, I have enjoyed reading your blog and have loved watching Lexi literally bloom before us in your posts. Do what is best for you and Lexi.

Ok, I'm with Essie. BLSKDJFLA!

This is a hard time of year for big decisions. You came back from a fun but tiring trip, survived a killer hear wave, and now are settling in to a new school year, as is Lexi. I love your blog and hope you decide to keep blogging in a way that is manageable and appropriate for you.

Yes, I will miss you, too. I love feeling "connected" to you, even though we are miles apart :).

What, and deprive me of the car stories??? ;)

Come over to the dark side and switch to wordpress... you can still blog and pw protect posts you want to keep more private. And you can also write entries that only you can see if you want to journal a bit.
