toothpaste

Do you know how long it takes one person to use a tube of toothpaste if she brushes her teeth 2-3 times a day? Neither do I, but it's longer than I thought.

Ann Marie thought this was so hysterical that I promised to do a post on it for her. I, like all ex-pats I know, have a cupboard full of necessities. My friend Kat shipped loads of toilet paper and paper towels--she hasn't bought any in-country yet. I stash away everything from Advil to creamy Jif. Also in my cupboard, there is a stockpile of toothpaste. I break out if I use anything other than Arm & Hammer baking soda toothpaste. (I love it--my teeth feel soooo clean.) So, it's important to know if I have enough toothpaste to last out my internal exile ;> . I keep trying to remember when I start a new tube so that I can figure out how long my stash will last. I say things to myself like, "Oh, surely I'll remember that I started this tube on Groundhog's Day/the twins' birthday/the third Thursday in October." But I don't. So, THIS time, I wrote the date on my toothpaste tube. I started this tube on 26 February.

It looks like I have enough to last for awhile...

Can you see the two little girl toothbrushes in there? Surely that wins me points. I've already got toothbrushes. (But, my prepared-ness is really a whole 'nother post...)

So--mock away. You call it obsessive. I call it well-planned.

When we lived in Vegas we "charged" people two things to come visit. They didn't even stay with us. But everyone who visited had to bring us a bag of Tim's Cascade Potato Chips and a canister of a tea I used to drink. Those 2 things were impossible to find in Vegas. So I know what you mean.

I stockpile Rimmel lipliner and L'Oreal foundation. Only a few stores carry the type I like, and now that I've found my colors, I have at least a year of supply in case it gets discontinued.

(Last time L'Oreal discontinued my foundation I tried EVERY fancy department store brand and didn't find the color or coverage I liked... so I want to be prepared!!!)

i understand the preparedness. i understand the over-preparedness and the mental health ramifications of that. i understand the under-preparedness and the mental health ramifications of that.

the whole thing is utterly draining.

p.s. THAT is a lot of toothpaste!

I counted 16 tubes in your photo, there could be more but I wasn't sure what was in the box. I figure if you squeeze every last ounce out of each tube, you should have enough to last you 3 1/2 to 4 years. Were you planning on staying in Russia that long?=)
I would have done the same thing with my facial soap, I'll break out if I use anything else.

Come on...opening the cabinet and seeing 623 toothpaste tubes IS hysterical.

Good thinking. Russian toothpaste tastes like cardboard. I still have a tube of it sitting in my cupboard from 2005.
