post-placement visit

My first post-placement visit with my Russian social worker is scheduled for next Tuesday. I will have visits from her every three months.

I have been told to have proof of medical insurance ready and to be prepared to demonstrate how independent Lexi is. One thing in particular we have to demonstrate is that Lexi can eat with a spoon independently.

We also have to register Lexi here in St. P. This is not an easy task. I say "we" but actually think this is a kindness-of-stangers thing. I don't think I can do it at. all.

We actually bumped into the sw today while we were out fruitlessly searching for plain, brown tights. (Note to all of you who say to go ahead and buy a Christmas dress: If only it were that easy! Dresses here are...not to my taste--and everything is expensive. A Christmas Day dress means I need to make one. But, we were at the fabric store to find something to make Lexi a stocking and, let me just say, no. This, "the best" fabric store has little in the natural fiber category and lots of acrylic and sparkle. I do have some lovely material from India we used for fairy costumes last year...) She's so nice and is always friendly. This is the first time she's seen Lexi. Lexi blanked out at her greeting and "how are you" in Russian. Lex is supposed to answer some interview questions...

One of our Russian speaking friends will be here to translate for both of us!

Are they for real? Wanting to see if she can eat with a spoon. She's 6 not 1. That one really amazed me.

Wish I could material or dress shop for you as there are such beautiful holiday dresses here.

Hope Thursday goes smoothly for you. Just think, only a few weeks and then 2 weeks of vacation for the holidays.

Will you and Lexi be flying back home this summer to meet your family?

You need a Tesco ;)

Hopefully - finally - will have the time at the weekend to post that 'stuff' to you (visiting the post office here is something I avoid like the plague). Want me to stick a Christmas stocking in? We have Tesco's you know and Carrefour and... but I will stop: I wouldn't want to make you jealous! And tights (Mothercare) if you give me her height in cm. Serious offer, so email me.

BTW - my word verification is 'bless', so clearly you need to accept the offer of the tights :)

Gosh, it is amazing that you can bump into your SW in a city with 4.8 million people!

I wish I could shop for you, as well. Hope you will let Lindsay mail you a Christmas stocking. Lexi just has to have one!

Weird about the spoon. What ARE they thinking?

I'm sure you and Lexi picked out her first day of school clothes and packed her backpack before bed tonight. Have a great day tomorrow at school. I'm sure everyone will be so happy to have you back and to welcome your daughter with open arms. I'll be thinking of you.

It's Tuesday... night for you, you've met with the SW by now. All went well I'm hoping. Don't tell me she had to watch her with a spoon!

You okay? Quiet here. Know you're in my prayers.
