If there are any ex-pats (or travelers) still reading this (which I'm doubting since it's less and less ex-patty and more and more proud mama) you need this link:
http://www.casttv.com/shows
It's free tv! They have all sorts of US tv shows--current and past. You have to play around to find the best player for you (I like wisevid and mega video--hulu doesn't work here.). But, it's a great resource for those days you're missing pop culture. I'm watching Project Runway, Castle and Heroes there this season. (Lost is already subscribed on iTunes.)
If it had Sesame Street, it would be perfect.

I wonder if I can get it to work on my very ancient computer.....
Cool! Who do you like on Runway? I liked Ping the best, but she is gone already. Then I like the woman from Milwaukee cuz she is from Milwaukee.
Lost is on tonite. Did you see the season opener? Crazy!
You know how much I love Cast TV since you first told me about it . . . Ahhh . . today I watched PR too. Mattias even watched a kid show . . .
Ohhh . . I also meant to add that I went out and bought an s-video cable, so we hook the laptop up to the flatscreen and watch in the living rooom . . .
I'm not an expat in Russia, but I'm still an expat.
Here are a couple of websites I use for some of my weekly TV addictions:
tvshack.net
sidereel.com
ninjavideo.net (this one is the best but don't forget to load the video helper before trying to watch a video.)
surfthechannel.com
Still enjoying your blog and I hope you keep up with it!
I love Castle! Good to know that there are some places I can watch my TV shows if we become ex-pats ourselves.
How about just plain old Americans who are too cheap to have TV?
Not that I really watch TV....but now I COULD if I WANTED to! (I hope I can find Forensic Files on there, my one vice.)
Ex-pat here. Uh oh, I am supposed to be preparing a lesson plan...
I'm not an expat, but I just discovered your blog this evening and spent several hours getting to know you and your story and wanted to leave a comment. I really enjoyed what I read. I have two children adopted from Russia. Our son was in the Moscow region and our daughter was in St. Petersburg. We were there in April, May and June of '09 for her adoption - such a beautiful city, though I don't think I would enjoy winter there very much. Looking forward to following your blog!
I'm an expat living in Moscow. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've been missing a few of my favorite American shows - and CastTV has them!! Now I can be cheap and not buy them from iTunes :)
I could have used that link during my two 7-week stints there last year-ish...
