Happy Victory Day!
Yes, without my slingbox filled with
H@llm@rk commercials to remind me...
I forgot that I'd figured out that this year, Victory Day in Russia is Mother's Day in the US.
Oops. Happy Mother's Day, too!
(What's with blogger not showing comments on old posts? I went back through the archives and found NO COMMENTS on any post I looked at today. What gives?)
Quote from an AP article about Victory Day and how Russia feels the Soviet effort in WWII is under-appreciated:
Analysts say the fanatical Russian celebrations are a sign the country is overcompensating for its relative lack of historical achievements, and that the Kremlin is capitalizing on a rare point of national unity.
I bet that ruffled some feathers!
Hope your feathers are decidedly unruffled today.

Happy Mother's Day to you. May you and Lexi have a wonderful day celebrating together.
We are in Ukraine completing the adoption of our fifth Son and the V Day marches and celebrations are just as prevalent here!
Happy Mother's Day! Sounds like a good excuse to stay in and snuggle. And, don't you think it's kind of ironic for your first mother's day to be Victory Day? I mean you did fight some fierce battles over a looooong time to get that kid HOME! :)
Happy Mother's Day to you! I was annoyed by the drunkards in the metro today and then looked at some American blogs and remembered that it's Mother's Day too! Hooray!
Happy Mother's Day!!!!
I have such great memories of being in Moscow last May on Victory Day.
We were there 4 years ago for Victory Day - awesome! And happy Mothers Day to you, friend!
Happy Mother's Day, Kate! While Victory Day is indeed important, I think celebrating your first Mother's Day with Lexi away from the crowds is even more significant. Enjoy!!!
How I wish I were in Moscow. Perhaps I'd say St. Pete, if I'd been there and fallen in love with it....
Drunkards in the metro - sounds lovely. :) So Russian!
Rachael - good catch there - so true!
Rach, that was my point. ;> I think it's very fitting!
Happy Mother's Day. For us it was a triple celebration, Victory Day, Mother's Day and DS birthday.
