Alas

That's really enough, isn't it?

Let me just say that the photos I received were misleading. It is t-i-n-y! Even my movers commented that this was a bad flat--too small, too dark. I've certainly moved from the family's rooms to the working part of the house (from Imperial times).

It's so small that my bed wouldn't fit up the stairs and my desk wouldn't fit through the door. (Major headache on moving day.) They're going to be stored at my principal's flat. Sigh.

D2b's room has no bed. It has a massive couch. Umm...not good enough. AND the furniture upstairs all had to be lifted in through the windows before the flat was finished! Nothing comes out.

The kitchen is so stupid.

There are no bookshelves.

There is no parking space.

Beazy doesn't like it either.

For now, I'm unpacking (the movers and I couldn't all fit in the flat with all the boxes so I'm doing the unpacking) and trying to decide what can stay out. The rest is going in the sauna. (Seriously--why attach a sauna to an airplane-sized bathroom?)

DHS says that my sw was wrong. The updated homestudy must be attached to the application for renewal or else a new fee must be paid. That is not the adoption news I hoped to have for you this week. Alas.

Hope to have computer up and running at the flat soon. But, it could be days.

My heart is aching for some good news from you.
Remember, it never works as we planned it would, be the dreams do come true.

Ohhh! What are you using for a bed if your bed would not fit up the stairs? Can they take the couch in D2B's bedroom out through the window? It's normal that your cat would not like it as he/she has to get used to new surroundings. Hope once you unpack and see what can stay that it will feel more like home.

Oh Kate-
That stinks...If you have to do another homestudy anyway - then maybe the school can find you another flat? did the school realize it was so much smaller than where you were?

Heidi is right though - the really good things never work out the way we imagine.
Hang in

Not the news we were all hoping for, either. :( I hope that - as you are able to put your touches on the flat - your overall feeling gets better. Bless your heart, I'm thinking about you.

Oh that stinks! Is there any chance of finding another flat in time for the homestudy? Maybe once you get stuff put away it won't seem so small...
Okay, yeah. That's wishful thinking. ;(

Ahhhh shit....

Yikes! How disappointing! Did I read that correctly; no parking space? I thought a courtyard parking space was part of the sell on this new flat?

Sounds like bait-and-switch to me.

no parking? Ack. I'm so sorry.

Sorry it's so disappointing! Maybe you can shoot for "cozy" instead of just small. . .

How disappointing! I'm sorry to hear the flat is not what you had hoped. Maybe once you put some personal touches in, it will feel more homey?

This stinks.

Oh, I was waiting for "at last" not "alas." Sorry, Kate, that pretty much sucks.

oh no, i don't even know what to write.

how are you feeling physically? you know - your lingering illness?

saying a prayer for your spirit and state of mind RIGHT NOW.

Oh no! That's terrible and so misleading.

Well, this is not nice at all! Does the flat look AT ALL like the photos? How the heck did they make it look so nice??? I wasted all that envy! I hope that on further consideration you find some things you like... Why didn't you get to actually LOOK at the flat before agreeing to it? That seems odd. (Maybe now you know!)

I know just what you mean about the "family's rooms" vs the "working part of the house". The building where we registered the adoptions in Ivanovo was a mill owner's mansion, and they did weddings upstairs (in the good part) and the record-keeping downstairs. I got SUCH a charge out of all the details....

Such a drag about the sealed-in furniture. YUCK. You'll have to chop it up and throw it out in small bags. d2b must have a real bed, not a couch. (Unless she is like two of my children who vastly prefer the floor, even, so long as it is in our bedroom!)

Keep plugging on the paperwork. Such a bummer, but that is the way it goes. Unfortunately.

Oh, Kate! I'm so sorry--this just stinks! Beazy will get used to it, though. She wouldn't like any new home right now. And somehow...somehow...things will work out....

come on!!! give this girl a break!

Oh no. That is the pits. When it comes to living space, size does matter. It is impossible to always make it work. You must have had a sick feeling when you realized how small it was. What are your options now? Will you be able to move again soon? Maybe once you unpack there will be a little more space? {{{Hugs}}}

Kate,
I'm hoping that you can find some redeeming aspects to your new place, or maybe it will just be a temporary resting place until you find a better one.

I like the idea of chopping the furniture up in small pieces to get it out, but that doesn't really help you get new furniture in. =)

Good luck!
Sandy

Oh, girl - what a bummer. How you're capable of making me smile when relaying your disappointment is beyond me! Alas.

Hang in there.

decorate it up and make it homey. that is all you can do for now. Sorry

Nooooo! Argh. Did you lie down and cry? I would have... then again it sounds like maybe there was no room to lie down. :( And what is up with the no parking...

Bleh.

(Although you did make me giggle with "the kitchen is so stupid." Because I have occasionally been at a loss for words to describe something and just gone with "it's just... STUPID" even when describing inanimate objects.)

Do you have the lottery in Russia? Cause you need to start buying lottery tickets, since your luck has to change soon and it's going to be in a BIG way.

Well, poop. Fingers crossed you get some great news soon...either on the adoption front, or news of a new flat!

I'm so sorry, I was looking forward to seeing pix of the new place. I thought maybe moving in and dressing things up would make time pass quickly for you!
Lots of hugs to you.
