where've i been?

Here've I been:

I painted my classroom (light green with polka dots, though the light green is washed out in these pix)...

...recovered the couch...

...put up bulletin boards...

and just generally got ready for today. It was open house! I met many of my students and am looking forward to our first day together tomorrow. For now, this tired teacher is off to bed. The first week is always l-o-n-g.

(No adoption news. My agency is still trying to get around the latest Interpol clearance and my hs update is still in process. They haven't found my lease yet.)

Nice job on the classroom! Think this year's class will be entertaining?

And that friggin' lease...come on...

Wow. Your classroom looks great! I'm a bit envious. My classroom is a portable with fabric on the walls and really small windows up near the ceiling. It's really hard to make it look nice.

I wish you the best this coming year!

It looks very zen with lots of little special touches. You should have happy and mellow and cooperative students this year.

Hope it's a great school year for you!

(BTW -- I picked a similar light green for my playroom! And I'm exhausted too -- who knew painting could be so tiring...my muscles actually ache.)

Sorry about that damn lease!!
I'm currently waiting on my homestudy update and agency is also having accreditation problems because of the Interpol thing so i feel your pain.

Leave it to Kate to create a classroom that looks like it's straight out of a Pottery Barn catalog!!

Your classroom does look fantastic--like a scrapbook layout just waiting for the kids' faces to complete it. Your complimentary rings around the windows (cool windows, by the way) and the dots on the bulletin board are great...

I just did a lot of catching up on your blog and really enjoyed it. Good luck with your paperwork!!

I hope you had a splendid first day with your students. I'm eager for school to start, too--I'm going back to teaching (not simply tutoring) for the first time in six years. I'll meet my students on September 3rd. (No classroom, though... I'll move around from room to room). How I've always dreamed of my own room... But foreign language teachers have had to move around wherever I've taught--or I've been the youngest in my department, so no room for me...

Oh--I also sympathize about the heat... My friend in Atlanta just can't understand what I'm complaining about, but high 80 degree heat is SOOOO much hotter here! Ditto on the multiple showers... The kids are withering from it, too.

I suppose I should get my jet-lagged self to bed now; it's only 3:39 a.m.!
