the most beautiful word

might just be "nap".

This hard-won sleep occurred in a record-breaking 40 minutes. That's easily an hour less than our previous sleep record. We haven't been able to nap yet because of all of our paper chasing--and I think this will help our sleep issues some. Sleep begets sleep. We have some bigger sleep monsters that we're battling, but having a kip (consider that a shout out to my UK readers) certainly can't hurt. Either of us.

Yes, she has tights on under her leggings. No, I do not intend to make a habit of this. It got cold today and she doesn't have any jeans or other pants. (They're waiting for us to pick up in the US when we pick up her passport. Not sure which is more important for an American girl living in Russia...) At least they match the red buttons on her top and look smashing with her long, red sweater. And, yes, even though this fits when she's awake and standing up, I did just buy this outfit in a size bigger. It's with the jeans. And maybe a few other things...

Hope you both managed to get a kip.

That would make you a pair of kippers :)

Hooray on getting your paperwork! I love sleeping children pictures-so sweet. Will be praying for sleep to come more easily for you both.

Glad to hear about the paperwork and the sleep!

When I saw the title, I thought it was going to be something sweet like "Mama"! But, I see you've discovered the practical side of motherhood so soon! haha.

Yay! For the passport.

Another yah for the passport!

I too think sleep begets sleep, a scheduled sleep child makes for a happy child. Once you get back home and into your routine, you'll get on a schedule. Until then, get it while you can!

When Lexi Kip's, you should Kip too!!!! I learned the hard way, and was wipped out for the first few months. So happy about the passport, and now on to the next 'chase'. All will work out fine =)

Blessings.....

"Nap" truly is a beautiful word! Sleep issues are something we are all familiar with. As she gets more comfortable in her new life, and as you find a bedtime routine that works for her, things will get better.

Haven't had a chance to catch up in the blog but you and Lexi are in my thoughts regardless!

I agree with you on that one! AT just turned 5 Harry still naps daily. Some days because he really needs it, but most days, because I AM THE ONE who needs him to sleep! I re-energize as he does! She's precious! Will be praying for y'all!

Oh yes. Naps are heaven (even when they don't have sleeping issues). She has to learn what it's like to be a daughter and not an orphan. She must be on stimulation overload without any idea of how to handle it.

Aren't kids precious when they sleep?

I hope the sleeping issues resolve soon!

Nap is indeed a beautiful word, and a beautiful feeling when you both get one.

Your sleeping Lexi is so dear.

And 3 cheers for the Russian official having a good day and getting the paperwork done! :-)

Little girls look cute with tights under anything...and frankly, I think that Russian idea has great merit.

You are funny; of course I thought "mama" too - as did everyone of us!

She is an amazing little girl! There is something so special about adopting a child who is aware of everything. God bless the two of you. It is almost like a movie! (With a super happy ending!) We adopted a 16 month old last year, but it is nothing like this, this is truly saving a child. How overwhelmed her little brain must be, but to sleep so peacefully is just adorable!

Seriously. Napping IS beautiful.

Do you have an idea of what her favorite color might be? I'd like to send something.

I had thought you had on red knee socks from looking at the pictue. Tights under leggings is so Russian as they love layering so she must have felt very comfortable with that. The gray outfit is very cute.

She looks so peaceful and content.

How does she like your cat and her new home?

Nice that you got to move to such a big apartment.

I hope all goes smoothly with the passport and upcoming flights. Hopefully you'll get to spend a day or so back home in the US to stock up on what you need for both of you.

I can't find the exact quote, or who its from, but somewhere I read this when my daughter was little:

"There never was a child so fair that his mother wasn't glad to hear he was asleep." :-)
