sing along!

God, bless America
Land that I love
Stand beside her, and guide her
Through the night with a light from above
From the mountains (my fav)
To the prairies
To the oceans white with foam
God, bless America
My home, sweet home
God, bless America
My home, sweet home

Happy 4th, everyone! I'm calling on all US citizens (and kindred spirits in any land) to celebrate Independence Day with exuberance and gratitude. Squash those for me who approach this day with cynicism or rancor. I'm wearing red, white (well, a light khaki--but I think khakis are the true sign of an American) and blue. Are you?

Leave your favourite patriotic song title in my comments. I've got a vast repertoire, but am always looking for more. Cheers!

I used to sing this with my class

There's Only One America

There's only one America
Just one USA
There's only one America
Where freedom finds its way

From the Empire State
To the golden gates
From the Alamo
To Independence Hall

Bless the stripes
Bless the stars
Bless this country of ours
One America, America for all!

This is my favorite, "America" by Neil Diamond. It brings back memories from my childhood.

"Everywhere around the world
They're coming to America
Every time that flag's unfurled
They're coming to America

Got a dream to take them there
They're coming to America
Got a dream they've come to share
They're coming to America"

Strangely enough, it also brings back memories of the Changing of the Guard ceremony I saw at Buckingham Palace. The Royal Band played this song, as well as a bunch of other Neil Diamond tunes. You'd think they'd be playing "God Save the Queen," or something equally as English. :)

You've got the spirit, Kate! I also love the 4th, and yes - I wore my red, white and blue. (I also love Flag Day.)

My fave is America the Beautiful. It always seems so heartfelt, no matter who sings it.

Happy 4th of July to our American friend in Russia! :-)

Happy Independence Day! May freedom ring, all around the world.

My fav is either the school standard, "Fifty Nifty United States."

Fifty nifty United States
From thirteen original colonies...

or Guthrie's classic "This Land is Your Land."

And Richard (traditionalist) says he votes for the Star Spangled Banner. Or "Song for America" (remember Kansas?)

Hey...today's ALSO the anniversary of the date Vera became an American! We touched down in Houston on the 4th, amid cheers. Another reason the Hasting family celebrates the day!

Happy 4th, Kate! I'm sure you were missing Memorial Park that day. I'm headed there today (CO, not the park). Love, Nif

I am definately with you on the song! My favorite too. And with Nif on Memorial Park. It never feels right with out those cannons! Glad others are in Red, White, and Blue. :0) Amy

The Battle Hymn of the Republic, The 1812 Overture and because I was listening to Amy's radio station: God Bless the USA. Love from El Paso
