bear pix

My friend Jenn sent me this photo after the recent posts about bears in St. P. She took it when she was here adopting her gorgeous son a little over three years ago.

I remember seeing a bear FAMILY being used for photos. There were bridal paries lined up to take their photos with the bears on one of the bridges...especially the brides holding the bear cub. Very strange and sad.

We were horrified to see the bear when we took the photo. We were also appalled that they allowed the bear to soil the outside of the Hermitage. All the dirt and grime on the side of the building was only where this bear was tied.

I remember seeing that bear or one just like it at the Hermitage almost 6 years ago. We were strolling through the galleries when we got the call to pick our ds up a day earlier than expected and ran out of there, only stopping in amazement when we saw it. Being from NYC not much stops me in my tracks btw.

I saw this same thing in Odessa, Ukraine. Then when my friend took a pic from across the street, it was just like you said, the man came demanding money. It never occurred to me that those animals might be drugged (there was a monkey and a snake being used somewhere else along the same street.)

That just breaks my heart.

I'm just as glad we never saw any dancing bears. However, Sergei is still reeling from seeing the "dancing children" (pretty much the same thing) - poor little beggars (literally) in the underground tunnels.

Though the economy being what it is, perhaps if I took my children and gave them all hats for donations, I'd do as well as well as I do with my second job. They'd get a little sun and exercise...win/win.

I think it is so sad, it looks like the bear's mouth is taped closed with black tape.
