visa!

I was going to do a "one week" post, but am posting this important news instead:

We have Lexi's visa!

Yes, the paperwork here is nearly complete. (We still have to register...and no one is sure where to do that. Fingers crossed for St. P!) We are able to leave tomorrow. After all the hiccups--a spat between ministries meant that my registration in St. P (which is all I need plus travel permission for anywhere in Russia--I don't need to register everywhere.) wasn't being recognized. The local OVIR wanted me registered in Moscow. The school/embassy couldn't do that because they'd already registered me in St. P. Oi. Got a hotel room for two nights and took care of that.

Then, today, they had MY name wrong on THE envelope that immigration gets. Counter-man said it would be fine. Someone else said to just put the same wrong name on form #something, I asked for it to be changed. It finally was. Oi.

Also got congratulated on my little boy today. Humph. But, also got admiring comments. Scarily, she's finding the power of her smile.

Now to make that flight and deal with US paperwork...

Today (and tomorrow) under her stars and stripes...

She wore THE stars and stripes. At the embassy she took off her dress and was so proud she and Mama were both wearing, "Flag! Flag!" (No, she doesn't know the pledge yet. She's showing you her flag.)

She is ADORABLE! Once her orphanage hair grows out, she will be the prettiest girl that they ever did see! (People thought our daughter was a boy from her passport photo.) From then on, all I ever put her in was pink - from head to toe! So happy to hear all the updates -

Oh I got that all the time! The best was when we were out to dinner with my brother-in-law and the waiter kept asking "what would he like?" My brother-in-law who is very easy going shouted "It is a girl!" So funny! Of course Klaire hated to wear bows in her hair at 2.5, but I dressed her in all pink and dresses all the time! Hope you have a safe journey!

It won't be long now until you are finished with the final steps and can start to develop a "normal routine." I'm so happy that everything is finally going as it should be and that you have your daughter!

Yeah! So happy you've jumped over this hurdle! Lexi looks adorable in her Flag shirt for sure! When we arrived home in the USA with both boys we dressed them in very patriotic attire, and just seeing them, standing there in line in immigration, made me cry more tears of joy! Love hearing your adventures!

Safe Travels, my dear!!
(btw, when D first saw her picture, she called her a "boy-girl." I explained that her hair was just short and that it will grow out, and she said, "Oh, like mine, then he'll be a girl?"

She is so cute, love the red on her! God Bless the Stars and Stripes!

Kate,
I am just catching up and reading all about Lexie and you. There just aren't words to describe it--wonderful, amazing, awesome, and I know there are just so many more that also fall short of describing how it actually must be.
I am so happy for both of you--what a dream come true.
She is adorable and lovely.
The clothes you got her are great and I love those little grey and pink shoes--I don't mind the flames.
Safe travels to America and back.

Lexi has the most gorgeous eyes - those lashes! And she's so cute in her stripes and her flag shirt. While she's not doing the pledge, I think it's great that the pic has her holding her hand over the flag and her heart!

I love red so love seeing the pictures of her in it. She's so darn cute.

I used to buy American flag things for my granddaughters but not once they left the US for Moscow as my daughter didn't want them to stand out in public as being Americans. I love all clothes with flogs and have my own flag sweaters.

Hope all goes well with the paperwork.

How long will you be home in the US?

She's got my haircut. I think she's stylin'....

congrats again Kate. Now everyone I know from "our time" has come home with their child. She is a beaut. Enjoy your time and being a mommy. Have fun in the US. Stock up on the stuff you need for over there.

It is so touching that she is so proud of her American shirt. Brings tears to my eyes. She looks more healthy - both physically and emotionally - in every new picture of see of her.

FWIW, people can't figure out if Zachary is a girl or a boy either but for the opposite reason. He has so much hair people are unsure.
