The new sw was going to cost $1750 + travel expenses to do my new hs. That's more than my first hs! I'm looking further.

My friend here was able to split the cost of her home study because there was someone else either in Ukraine or some European country who needed a hs as well. They split the travel costs for the sw. I don't know how she found out about this - is there some kind of organization that does foreign country homestudies for U.S. citizens?
There aren't any other pap's in St. Petersburg right now. Last time the sw was here on other business and we (the other st. p ap family who had court last week) didn't have to pay for travel. Now...I'm just hoping for something...
Kate, I'm forwarding you a list of social workers that do homestudies for Americas living abroad that was posted on my military adoption group. Check your Yahoo account.

I'm glad you stopped by! This blog chronicles my experiences living in and adopting from Russia. It was a six-year journey that doubled the size of my family. I adopted my daughter, then age 6, from Moskovskaya Oblast. Now we're back in the USA and no longer posting from Russia.
March 2006: adoption officially begins! blah. blah. blah. March 2008: starting over with "new agency" May 2008: paperwork to US July 2008: paperwork in Russia September 2008: possiblity... November 2008: improbability. December 3, 2008: 1000 days! February 2009: MOE approval! May 2009: "the call" (which was actually an e-mail.) June 2009: trip one July 2009: a visit September 2009: court 1294 days after March 2006:together!

Grr. How frustrating this all is for you.

How frustrating!!!
It's the travel expenses part that must be the kicker.
Hopefully you will come up with an innovative solution in due time.
Sorry. That sucks.
I know a good one in Germany that does them for Americans all over Europe...
She I think charges $800-$1000?
