choking cherries

Do you see this?

It's a chokecherry tree on our school playground.

Every year when it starts to look like this:

the weather gets cold. I don't remember this happening in Colorado...but maybe it did. We've gone from warm sunny weather with temperatures in the lower 20's to cold, sleety morning with a temperature of around 8C. I refuse to dig out my winter coat...but I did put on a hat today. The sunshine is predicted to be back on Monday. Let's hope!

It would be warm here if it wasn't for the freakingly (is that a word) cold north wind we're getting. Sunday is supposed to get up to 19C and the wind is set to die down (hopefully)!

Hope it warms up for you....brrrr.

Ahh, but what a wonderful time of year it is when the occasional cool spell is just an interruption in an overall warmer trend, vs. the downhill ride to winter!

Beautiful tree, by the way.

Pretty! Hey, wanted to let you know that your blog is both pictured (the header) and quoted in the May issue of Aeroflot's inflight magazine. They quoted you talking about how spring is mud/slush season in St. P, then it's tourist season. Our quotes were all translated into Russian, ergo my perhaps inexact rendering of the original :-)

Can't you imagine? "Please, please hurry up my referral... After all, I'm quoted in Aeroflot's magazine..."

If you know anyone taking Aeroflot this month, ask them to grab the magazine for you. I haven't been able to get a copy any other way. I'll scan it and email you, though; I only know we're in it b/c a friend happened to fly with them last week.

Once they find your blog, they tend go back again and again -- so keep writing!

OH -- I also have a bag of stuff for you from Rachael, plus some stuff from me, too, for you and your girls at the orphanage. Do you know of anyone from AAS headed to St. P in the next weeks? It all fits in a reasonable-sized shopping bag, not a huge imposition.

Oops. Published twice by accident. Sorry.

Careful about wearing skirts until they allow it over there! ;) You know what they say...

You're from Colorado? Me, too! Where?

My favorite thing about the first photo (I looked at it big, so as to "see" Russia), is the very Russia-like trash/debris at the edge of the playground. Oh, Land without lawsuits!

Ugh! I guess I won't complain about our 60 degree weather and rain the past few weeks!
