bah humbug

I was on Amazon the other day with a list of recommended books to buy. Most were adoption books, full of interesting attachment tools and blah, blah, BLAH!

I do NOT want to read another adoption book! I've read good books and stupid books. I've read forums and blogs and online classes. I've read about attachment, trauma, PAD, out of sync children, memoirs, and bitter rantings. I've read about adopting toddlers and "older" children. I've read about medical issues. I've read about children adopted from Russia and China, the US, the UK and Ireland. I've read TONS and think I'm just about the most well-read ap out here. No, I'm not blowing my own horn. I've just had a long time to read! And right now, I just don't want to read about it any more.

Do you know what I need? A new Bridget Jones book. Anybody friends with Helen Fielding?

SW2 is due back from nursing her ailing mother (I am a BAD person who inside my head keeps saying something to the effect of Doesn't your sick mother need her rest? Can't you hit print on my hs while she's napping and then just pop to the post office while you're still in the US? I know. I said I was rotten. I am. And selfish.) on Wednesday. Agency continues to expect accreditation "any day".

Sorry...I don't have any connections in the literary world. Just an overused Barnes & Noble card. If I were going anywhere near St. Pete's I'd bring you some.
Maybe I can entice you to visit us in Ukraine with the promise of a couple of new books?! Hmmmm?
As far as the homestudy goes...it will happen. Soon. Just hang in there a little while longer. ((hugs))

Can't help you with the Helen F request, but for similar reading try Marian Keyes, esp Last Chance Saloon or Angels. Hilarious.

I feel your pain with the reading. I'm rebeling now and just started a Karen Kingsbury today.

I'd love to get my hands on a really good escapist-type book right now too. (Which is the last thing I have time for right now...but still)

Hang in there. Take a break. Read something else - or don't read at all if you don't want to. Sometimes you just need a break from 'waiting', huh. Which, in reality you probably can't actually do, but at least take a mental break for a few days.
I was devastated to read about your big turkey! I would have just cried!

I belong to a book club that prefers "light" reading. Sometimes we read some bio's, etc, but mostly it is "just for fun" type of books... and they are quick reads. I will be glad to pass titles along, or you can email me and I will pass some of the books on to you. Our list is quite varied and some are excellent.

I second your request for a new Bridget Jones book! Marian Keyes is good too, and I've also enjoyed some Sophie Kinsella.

When we were in process, I also had to drop all the adoption books. There is such a thing as being over-informed. It can get to the point where you either scare yourself silly or become so blase about things that all the extreme negative possibilities in adoption seem normal.

Some escapist reading is definitely in order.

lol I sooo hear you, I'm at the exact same point!
Read
Fall on Your Knees by Anne Marie McDonald....it will take your mind off adoption and into something wonderful in an odd sort of way!

Just have to ask if you have read Barbara Pym. She is wonderful.
