crumbs

Agency says the MOE was closed last week. I think it will likely be closed Friday for May Day and then possibly through May 11 (Victory Day is May 9.) So, I think it could be awhile before we hear anything.

Agency asked if I was interested in younger than four (settle down, Julianne) just as a possibility and I said not really. I did offer to up my age range to seven. But, I get the feeling they don't have great contacts outside the baby homes. Hmmm... I'm sure we talked about this before I signed....

In other news:
  • I am going to be moving this summer. Hooray! Probably hooray. I'll be glad to not be here. But, I don't know yet where I'm going.
  • I have a student teacher. Oi.
  • Sleep deprivation season has begun! Although, this year, we sort of skipped mud season. I guess that's what global warming (sarc!) does...

Hang in there. I am.

Oh, Holidays - that is probably why I haven't heard anything either. Gotta love those Russian holidays! Seriously, is there one a week?

Hey Kate, any chance you might get to move to Vasilevsky Island?

I can understand why they are closed on May 1st and May 11th but why all of next Monday - Thursday?

I don't recall reading in your blog about your decision for the 4 to 7 year old range.

Hope you hear PDQ!

Figures it'd be a holiday.

I had a physician's assistant student in January. It was exhausting. I feel your pain. But, I bet you are a good teacher, so lucky for the student teacher!

One thing I love about Russia is they get the longest holidays. The one thing I hate about Russia is they get the longest holidays...every time you're waitin' on something!

Ah, the May holidays. I remember being there on the 60th anniversary of Victory Day. We enjoyed all of the pomp and parades.

And here's an advantage to having a student teacher - the extra work will help distract you while you wait for your news.

If I understand correctly kids age out of the baby homes at four. So if you agreed to like 3-1/2 or "almost" four they might be able to identify her and keep her there for you so you would essentially get a four year old by the time everything was said and done. Because after all May is just the start of vacation season in Russia, isn't it?

It's always fun to think of the various ages of children who might come to you.....

We ended up with a five year old, quite by accident....I'd asked for an older boy, closer in age to Sergei. And, then we were offered Zhenya and told he was older. He heard them telling me he was six and he said, "Four!" They hadn't counted on a) him speaking and b) the parent knowing Russian. But, we were blessed with our Zhen....and then - surprise! Here comes Ilya, the perfect age to be a "companion brother" for Sergei. You just never know.

Can't wait, can't wait for your referral - and can't imagine how you feel! Well, I can, sort of.....

Next year - rather than two mature, educated, experienced assistants.....I will have a student intern. NOT happy about this. Not quite the responsibility of a student teacher, certainly, but there is the sense I am supposed to be a benefit to HER more than the other way around. Which is dismaying.
