the elephant in the room

I think I'm adopting an elephant.

Some friends of mine who adopted from Russia took nine months, start to finish. Nine months! Nice, huh? I remember telling her I thought it was perfect to have the adoption match the length of a pregnancy. She, of course, felt like nine months was forever.

Well, it's been nine months since my homestudy visit. (That doesn't include the two-and-some years prior that I spent changing careers, paying off debts, and saving to afford the adoption.)

An elephant's gestation is 22 months. I was really hoping for a llama...gestation period of 330 days. (That would put court at the end of March..so it's highly unlikely, but not out of the realm of the miraculous.) Let's hope there are still llama possibilities out there DESPITE all the indications of elephants.

I feel like I'm an elephant! It's been 15 months now and is sure to be at least 3 more. Maybe I'll go into pre-mature labor!=) I really enjoy reading your blog. I'm jealous that you're in Russia. I would be pounding on my children's orphanage door everyday to see them until I was able to bring them home if I lived there.

Yeah...it's been 10 months for us, with the promise of many more to go. I said, on someone else's blog, that what frustrates me is that a co-worker of mine got pregnant after we were well into our homestudy, and she's due to deliver any day now.

They say patience pays off - and I believe it - it's just difficult not to run out of patience!!

Hang in there! :)

There used to be/is a blog called "An Elephant's Gestation." Now you know why. I'm at 19 months and counting at this point... I'm already in elephant territory. It ain't pretty! I hope you can stick to the llama length.

Well, your elephant is adorable...and if it makes you feel any better, my homestudy is still not complete and we're in the 6th month. I'm just hanging around...

I was an elephant. Please don't be an elephant. It sucks.

Well, if it's not a llama, than hopefully it will be closer to that than an elephant!

Hang in there, Kate. The new year will bring good things. Our process ended up being 17 months - but that was during accreditation lapse times.

It WILL happen. And then you don't forget the long wait, but it does become a distant memory.
